Are there any other XL1200S Sportster wranglers that have an engine that likes to lubricate outside the carb too??
I just had my oil changed today, and was politely informed by the person in the service area that they do spew oil out the carb normally.....
I am having a hard time accepting this information; most engines I run usually like to lubricate the insides.
(Fact or Fiction, based on your experience please...)
Thanks !

Re: My Sportster Spits
Sat, October 27, 2007 - 7:50 PMVery common (all harleys). Do some searching. There are lots of "fixs". I'm not sure any of them really work.

Tue, October 30, 2007 - 12:46 AMHad the same problem with my 03 XL1200C.
I had the problem when I ran the Synthetic oil. When I switched back, I noticed very little problem. As others have said it will happen on the Sportster models. I use synthetic oil in my 05 Ultra and have no blow by.
Check which oil your using...perhaps going back to the regular (Non-synthetic) may take care of the problem -

Re: My Sportster Spits
Wed, October 31, 2007 - 9:39 AMSticking with the recommended 20 W 50 Harley 'brew', I wonder IF there is a PVC style of device on the oil system which is sticking open a bit allowing too much oil into the chamber. Perhaps it is the laziness of the dealership I am going to also..... I have heard stories from other people. But I don't want to get on the bad side of an authorized service station..... -

Re: My Sportster Spits
Sat, November 3, 2007 - 4:20 PMUpdate: For Nov 2 returned to dealer. complained about oil and they fessed up that they overfilled the oil themselves. When I picked up my ride, they told me they only put in 3.8 litres of oil...go figure
Thanks to those who replied and those who read and shook their heads..; )
